Language Features - English

In English we are introduced to creative writing and it's types, form, and genres. We have been given a writing task matrix which included six different types of activities that we can do. The first activity I did was language features. In this activity we were required to create a slideshow that shows three terms, it's the definition, an example, and the effect of each. The three terms that I chose were personification, alliteration, and allusion. Anyway, here is the slideshow that I have made. 

Physical or Chemical Change - Heating ZnO

Hypothesis: I think that the change will be a chemical change because heat was given out or absorbed during the experiment. 

Equipment: 

• Sample of ZnO (Zinc Oxide)
• Heat source - Hot Plate
• Scales
• Heatproof container - evaporating dish
• Tongs
• Heatproof mat

Method:

1. Get a sample of ZnO + container - record weight.
2. Weight the ZnO and container - record weight.
3. Heat container + ZnO on the hot plate.
4. Observe any changes - use a phone for before and after photos (video).
5. Take off the heat + put on a heatproof mat.
6. Let cool - observe - photos. 
7. Re-weight.

Results: What happened? - write your description.

The change was a physical change and not a chemical change. When the zinc was heated, there wasn't that much change. Until a few minutes passed the white powder changed to a more pinkish colour, which then turned yellow. However, before we started our experiment, we weighed the dish with the zinc before heating it up on a hot plate. It weighed a total of 57g, this wight remained the same after our experiment was over. 

Conclusion: 

In conclusion, my hypothesis was wrong even though it was given the heat and there was a colour change. It would then change back to its original colour which made it a physical change. Because it could be reversed easily. 

Cyber Safety Tips!!

This week on ICT, we have been learning about cyber safety. Thanks to cyber safety, I have learned lots of information about how I can keep myself safe online. Anyway, for our first task. We were tasked to make a poster or a presentation with some tips, on how you can make yourselves safe online! Here is my presentation which contains 5 tips to help you!

EOTC Week | Water Safety | Swimming Pool | Ocean | Jellie Park |

Next week on Wednesday, 3rd of December. We are going to Jellie Park for our EOTC week, however, we are also going to Adrenaline Forrest as well as the City. Although we have been set a variety of tasks to do before we go to these places. These tasks are doing a blog post for each activity, today I have a poster of different tips when in the pool or ocean as water safety. I made a total of eight tips and four safety tips for swimming pools and another four safety tips for the ocean. 

Hurumanu 8 | Health | Effects of Gaming on the Mind & Body |

For the past few weeks on Hurumanu 8 (Health), we had to work on discovery tasks which consisted of several topics to choose from, the theme. I selected the effects of gaming on the mind and body. After we picked, a discussion, we then had to have five big questions. Once we had our five big questions. We then had to answer them and then describe three ways to improve and manage our chosen health issue. Afterwards, we needed to create an activity or make something, that teaches another group or the class about our topic/findings.

I chose to present my work on a website using visme, I, chose to display my work into this site because I was comfortable using it. It also made it considerably easy for me to move my writing on the planning sheet to the actual website. Anyways, I believe that I have managed to work well to complete the task. I am also really pleased and proud, with the work that I have created.

Hurumanu 2 | Film Studies | Coraline | Plots |

What are we learning? This week on Hurumanu 2, we have been learning about the plot of the movie Coraline. These plots were; 

• Exposition - The characters, Theme & Idea and Setting 
• Complication - The scene which triggers the chain of events or where something is about to happen
• Rising Action - This includes the series of events that increases the tension; to lead the climax of the story. 
• Climax - Where the problem is about to begin
• Falling Action - Where the problem has begun 
• Resolution - The problem has been solved by the protagonist
• Denouement - The ending of the story or the finale 

Then we had to make a timeline of the plot of the story, there were two options to make our timeline. One was to make a normal timeline and one was a Freytag's Pyramid, I chose to make one using Freytag's Pyramid since I have never used it before and It was new for me.  

How does this show my learning? This shows my learning by presenting my knowledge by making a Freytag's Pyramid, and explaining the events in the movie, 

What am I wondering as a result of my learning? I am wondering if I have properly explained the events of the movie. 

ESOL | Halloween Project |

For the past few weeks on ESOL, we have been making a presentation for our Halloween project. We made our presentation using 'FlexClip', and it took us quite a while to finish the actual presentation since we have never used this website before. Anyways, we had to present a story or myth about a mythical creature in our country. Lars and I decided to make one for the kumakatok which are three hooded people, who come to your house and knock on your door in the middle of the night. However, we managed to finish it and we are quite pleased with what we have made.
