Ways to be Physically Active!

This week on Drama, we learned how to be physically active. If you want to be physically active you can go to the gym, play sports, run or walk, dance and you can also do some martial arts. On Drama, we also had to describe two people who were our role models. I chose two people who were physically active.

1. Kobe Bryant: Kobe is my role model because he is good at playing basketball. But when he doesn't have a game, he works out 6 hours a day, six times a week, for six months. On his workout session, he works on track work, basketball skills, and weightlifting. On this workout he spends two hours on every workout, meaning he spends two hours on track work (running). Two hours on basketball skills, and two hours on weightlifting.

2. Jackie Chan: Jackie Chan does; martial arts, judo, karate, and taekwondo. He is also; an actor, a singer, a film director, and a stuntman. He keeps physically healthy by eating healthy food such as fruits and vegetables.

After that, we had to choose one person who will be interviewed. We chose Lars to be interviewed as Kevin Durant. Axle and I were the people who will be questioning him. We had five questions related to how he is physically active. The question we asked was; what do you do for a living? How are you physically fit? What do you do to keep healthy? For how long do you train? What does it feel to be healthy? Our Drama teacher recorded all of us interviewing and asking questions.

Climate Change

Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.

As you watch the video answer these questions:

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years? Climate change

How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
  1.   Sea level rising
  2.   Temperature rising
  3.   Natural disasters
  4.   Heatwaves
  1. Car, Trucks, and boat are affecting the world by releasing smoke and carbon dioxide. We, people, can help that by only using a bike, scooter or electric car so that there will be nor gas and carbon dioxide will be released.
  2.   The factory is also one of the problems in the world because it delivers oil to our ocean.
  3.  Rubbish is bad for our planet because it tricks animal to eat it. We can help that by not throwing rubbish in the ground or in the ocean so that no animal can get harm.
  4.  Greenhouse gases trap heat radiating from Earth to space. This heat, in the form of infrared radiation, gets absorbed and emitted by these gases in the planet's atmosphere warming the lower atmosphere and the surface.

Freeze Frames (Drama Hurumanu)

After we finished our hurumanu on P.E, we moved into drama. Unforntually I was sick, so I didn't get to experience this hurumanu. Although we still had drama on Friday, and that is today so I get to at least experience it. Although we are not doing activities, we are making a blog post about what they did last Tuesday on drama.

This is what they focused on:
Freeze Frames: Participants create an image using their bodies – with no movement. Freeze frames can be made by individuals, small groups or even the whole group.

  • Taha Hingeraro
  • Taha Tinana
  • Taha Whanau
  • Taha Wairua
  • Each group created 4 freeze frames showing the 4 aspects
Anyways because I wasn't here last Tuesday for drama. Here is a picture of my friends doing a freeze frame.
In this picture, they are stretching.
 In this picture, exercising
In this picture, they are resting.
In this picture, they are fighting.
All these pictures focus on, Psychical Health (Taha Hingengaro)

Making our own game: Tangaroa

This term, we have been learning about Tane Mahuta and the other gods that are associated with it. We had to be in groups and research and write facts about Tane Mahuta and the other gods. After we have researched we had to focus on one god, our group chose Tangaroa (God of the sea). After we chose a god to focus we had to find an environmental issue that links to Tangaroa. We then focused on over-exploitation, after we finished our research. We had to pick either make a game about over-exploitation or make an app about it. I chose to make a game because it found more interesting and maybe a bit more fun to do. There are several apps to make our game in; there was Gamefroot, Code.org and Scratch. I chose to make my game in Gamefroot because I found it easier to use than the other apps.

Reflection:

Before my group and I start to make the game, we made a script as our plan. The plan was to figure out how much fish you will bring back to your village to feed, but still, have enough for the next day. It was supposed to be harder every single level...

Back to when I was making my game I started by making the terrain of it, which took a lot of time since it was my first time and the map was actually pretty big. After I made the terrain I made obstacles around the island. I placed random Maui hooks around the game and coded them so they could be collected. It was pretty simple since I learned how to code them in a tutorial. The task was pretty much to find all the Maui hooks and collect them. Then my problem occurred. I didn't know if it was possible to code it where you can go fishing in the game. Although if it was possible, it might be too hard to code and might take a lot of time.

So I just made it that you had to collect all of the Maui hooks that are on the island. I didn't quite finish the game but I was almost done. Anyways I hope you enjoy the game!

Things that I could have done better:

  • Time Management
  • Focus
  • No messing around
  • Self Management

Maths DLO: Column Method by Addition and Subtraction

This week on maths we had to make a DLO about a strategy. My group made a column DLO, on this DLO we have to teach you how to use this strategy, and how to use them for addition and subtraction.  I find the column method the easiest strategy to use in addition and subtraction. Although I also found it pretty hard to explain, I managed to finish my DLO. I hope you learned how to use this method.

Game Making - Schadenfreude

This week on term 2 we were making our own games. There were 3 sports; Basketball, Football, and Netball. Within these 3 sports, we could use some of the mechanics that are included in these sports. Anyways our game was called "Schadenfreude," and the object of our game was to score 10 points the fastest or scoring the most out of all the teams. There are 4 teams with 2-3 players in each team. The equipment we used was a dodgeball and cones. To score you have to kick one or the two ball to any of the goal except for yours. One point a throw goal, which is throwing the ball in the goal. Then two point for kicking the ball in the goal. You can win by scoring 10 points or getting the most points out of all the other teams. Lastly the rules,

You may pass the ball by kicking the ball to your teammates, or you pass the ball like how you normally pass the ball in basketball and netball.

However, you can only score by kicking the ball into the goal post or by throwing.

The balls always start in the middle of the court, which is half court.

You are not allowed to hit other players during the game, that means no pushing, no tackling, no kicking the opponents, otherwise, if this does happen, the player who did the “foul” will be taken out of the game until the end of the round.

The goals are placed in each of the corners.

If one team gets the ball out, same rules applied which will be settled by a jumble. That those teams cannot participate in.

No boundaries.

Their feedback from us was to fix the number of players who are in a team because there were too many people in each team.

After the ball have been scored/have been past the goal a point is given to the team who has struck it to any of the goals beside from their own; then that ball will not be used until the second ball has passed a goal and in which case the game will start again with the 2 balls in the middle.

You cannot hold the ball with two hands simultaneously, you can dribble the ball or dribble it with your feet to the goal in which you may kick or throw it to the goal. You may not also throw or kick the ball above the goalie’s head.

After we made the description of our game, we paired up with another group to teach each other the games that we made. The other group that we paired up had football and netball as a game. But there was a little twist on it. Their game included an obstacle and a spider walk in their game. However, their game was pretty fun. Their rules were pretty clear, although there was a small problem which they were able to fix.

How to make a quality comment 2019!

As you might have known I already did a blogpost about, making a quality comment. However that was last year ago, and it can be really hard to find. So here is another blogpost. This is just like the other one (if you remember), although it has a little more explanations of what positive, thoughtful and helpful mean. Anyways here is the slideshow.
