HEC | Baking at Home Task | Week 2/3!

For week 2/3 in HEC (Home Economics), we will be doing a baking task at home. I decided to make a Filipino bread called "Pianono", also known as swiss rolls. I asked my mother to help me make it since she has made one before. This are the ingredients and methods we used to make this bread.

Ingredients:

  • 6 Eggs - white and yolk
  • 6 tbs of flour
  • 1/4 cream of tartar
  • 6 tbs of white sugar
  • Margarine
  • Powdered sugar (optional)
Method:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 365 degrees, on bake.
  2. Separate the egg white and yolk.
  3. In a mixing bowl put the egg white and the cream of tartar, and beat using a hand mixer in a slow-motion until it forms a soft, fluffy, and light mixture
  4. Gradually add sugar to the meringue.
  5. Beat the egg yolks, and gradually add it into the meringue.
  6. Repeat step number 3 but adding flour.
  7. Get a tray and place baking paper into it.
  8. Pour the mixture into the tray evenly, and gently tap and shake it into a hard surface so that the bubbles will pop.
  9. Place it in the oven for about 15 minutes.
  10. Check the bread to see if it is cooked by using a skewer or a toothpick and poking in the middle.
  11. Take the tray out and spread margarine on top of the bread, and sprinkle sugar on top of it.
  12. Place another baking paper on top of the bread, then put another tray on top of it and carefully flip it.
  13. Spear the margarine and sprinkle sugar on top of it.
  14. Gently roll the bread until it becomes a roll.
  15. Sprinkle some powdered sugar on it. (Optional)

  1. Hi Vann. Wow! I am impressed with your baking this Pianono roll. It is quite a tricky method from step 12 to 14. Did your roll remain smooth or did it crack as you rolled it? Did you use a cloth or paper to help with the rolling? You may be showing this in your photos but they are not visible. Can you please fix this problem so that we can see your photos.

  2. Hello Vann. That is a complicated recipe you have chosen for your Baking at Home Task. So glad you were able to work together on the Pianono with your Mum. I would love to hear how the outcome tasted, what its texture was like etc.
