Olympics Day! (Athletics Day...)

Yesterday, we had an Athletics day all the children at different rooms were there too. There were 6 events, or 7 because there was a event where you can rest. But there was sprints, long distance, shot put, discus, high jump and long jump. My favorite one was sprints, long distance, long jump and high jump. When I was doing the sprints I felt kind of scared because I was versing fast people. But then when it started I came second place and I felt very proud of myself. Then we had a final with all the people that won, and I came second again! 

After we sprinted we rested at the resting area. Then the bell rang and we went to shot put, but I didn't really did that good in shot put. Next we went to long distance. The teacher gave us the rules, and then the 10 year old boys sprinted at the field, we had to do 4 laps of the field. I looked around me and I was second place. A couple of minutes ago I stared puffing and I also started to go slower but I got my second lap. After that I finished my 4th lap and I was second place again. After that we went to the resting area again, me and my friends were playing slaps. Next the bell rang, this time we were going to discus. I found discus really hard so my goal was to get better at shot put and discus. 

But then we went to high jump, it was one of my favorite event. I was more used jumping using my right foot so I went into the right side. After 3 - 4 rounds I started failing and hurting myself a bit so I stopped. Then the last event long jump, I jumped from 2.5 meters. But I didn't did that well but that is also one of my goal. But I think I did really good on athletics and I hope I get better at it. Baboosh!

Mariana French (Mariana Trench)

Last week we have been doing a information report, we had a choice of what report we are doing like history. But I did the ocean, I chose the ocean because I liked it. It took me 1 week to finish this report because I wasn't here at Friday. But at least I finished it at home. I also have drawing of the two animals that I drew. Mysteries Of The Deep...

Do you know lots about the ocean? Do you know what Mariana Trench is? Is it safe? What animals is there? Well if you want to find out come and join me in my ocean exploration! Our topic will be about the ocean but did you know that we only have discovered 5% of our oceans! Really awesome right?! Don’t believe me? Well look at this How much of the ocean have we discovered? But maybe some of you doesn’t like oceans. But wait! Before you go out and do what you want to do. I want to tell you about the ocean, because you might be interested to join me and explore the wonderful, mysterious, ancient and threatening Mariana Trench. “Ahh, my I’m out of breath…” (Joking) Anyways.

The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the world’s oceans. It is 10,994 meters deep. It is located in the Western Pacific Ocean, an average of 200 kilometres (124 miles) to the east of the Mariana Islands, in the Western Pacific East of the Philippines. It is a crescent-shaped scar in the Earth's crust. So are you interested now? No!? “What do you mean no?” Fine how about this.. How about we learn about learn about the people that succeeded to go at the bottom of the Mariana Trench? Ok! Let’s go follow me…!

So it’s called Mariana Trench, and at the very bottom was the lowest point on Earth’s surface, “The Challenger Deep..” Its floor was seven terrifying miles down!

“No that has to be fake..!” Don’t believe me again? Hehe well read this. What lives at the bottom of the Mariana Trench?  “Pretty scary down there..”

But I don’t actually know why it’s called Challenger Deep, but I have one that why it’s called that way. Maybe it’s called Challenger Deep because it will be very challenging to get there because it’s very deep. That’s my fact, maybe you awesome divers have any fact about why it’s called Challenger Deep.

Are you still diving with me? If you are, we have lots to dive through like sharks! “Nah, I was just kidding…” I’m pretty sure you don’t want to dive /through sharks…

In 1989, James Cameron had an enjoyment imagining what might be at the bottom of a similar canyon when he made “The Abyss..” Which imagined quite a lot at the bottom of an unnamed Caribbean Trench. Then in February and March, he descended to the bottom of both New Britain and Mariana Trenches, lights and 3-D Hi-Def cameras were blazing, in a slender, lime green sub called the Deepsea Challenger.. He also dropped several autonomous landers built on similar design.

Are you enjoying about what I have said so far about the Mariana Trench and the Challenger deep? “Cool!” Because I have some more..!

But of course he wasn't the first spectator.. A different looking sub was invented, “The Bathyscaphe Trieste.” It was invented in 1960, but the Bathyscaphe Trieste was unable to observe much, and for whatever reason, little seemed to reach the public about what has been found since. Back in February, all footage of the Challenger dives and landers are being withheld by National Geographic until their can release their own 3-D feature film. Perfectly understandable, considering they helped bankroll the huge operation. The result, though, is that after all these visits to Challenger Deep, the view of the bottom remains largely and frustratingly shrouded to the rest of us. He went a little bit further than James Cameron too.

But there is still lots of more information about it, but i’m not going to say all of it to you. Because it would take very long, but here is a link if you want to actually know all about the Challenger Deep and the Mariana Trench. More Information. But we are going to skip at the people that successfully got to Mariana Trench. So now we are going to the animals that lives in the Mariana Trench….  

Now i’m probably wondering that you are thinking of krakens or other insane animals. But sadly there ain't no krakens at the Challenger Deep. But there will be a lot of cute or creepy alien looking animals in this report.

1. It’s an octopus that is very cute. It got it’s name from the elephant named dumbo… It’s called a Dumbo Octopus because it has ears like the elephant Dumbo. But this adorable animals has some special features, it has wiggly eyes and a pleasant puckered mouth. But that only adds to it’s cartoonish looks.

It actually choose to make it’s home all the way down between 9,800 and 13,000 feet, or

2,987 and 3,926 meters.

     2. “The Deep Sea DragonFish” If the Dumbo Octopus is the least harmless looking animal.

Well this Dragonfish is the opposite. With it’s oversized teeth and his hideous face, the dragon fish is an assassin of the incomprehensible deep. Although this fish has no scales but it has very slippery, slimy skin that resembles an eel’s body…

The Dragonfish about 6 inches or 15 centimeters long, it prefers to swim between 700 and 6,000 feet, or 213 and 1,828 meters. Under the surface. So the Dumbo Octopus swims more deeper that this creature. But this Dragonfish likes to be in the cold and lightless water. But I actually thought that the water there should be hot because it is closer to the Earth’s core. But they said it is cold, and some said it was warm with a little bit of coldness…

3. Now let’s go to my favorite one, the “Goblin Shark” If you have ever seen any scary alien movies, this creepy alien looking shark might ruin your day. Goblin sharks have a protruding snout that looks like a pointy sword. Just below the snout are a set of protruding jaws that appear to be mismatched for the shark’s face.

This week we have been given a new strategy! It's called "Reflection..." I am pretty sure some of you already know what reflection is. It's everywhere, glass, window even water! I Need Feedbacks!!

This term we were reading our novel books, my novel was "Number The Stars!" The author's name was Lois Lowry. But If you don't know what Number The Stars is I'll tell you a little bit. I's basically a story about Germans and Jewish people.  The leader of the Germans thought that the Jewish people were bad but they weren't actually bad. Then the Germans started killing Jewish people or put them into jail. That's the little bit, but we had to make a character traits about the characters in the story, but if you don't know what character traits mean it means that you are telling about the character like their very helpful.

But anyways we made a slide show about our characters, but it's still in work in progress. But the purpose of this is: To get feedback about your character description so you know what you've done well and how you can improve. That's why I am posting this it's because I need feedback of what I should do next or if I should change anything. But anyways that's pretty much it and please don't forget to give me feedback about my character traits. Bye!

For A Better Preview

This term we have been given a strategy, again.. But today it's about rotating objects or other kind of stuff. When I did this the first time I failed, but luckily I got it right. We had to make a DLO about this strategy, I also failed recording this strategy because there were so many people outside recording and they were noisy and then I run out of time... but I happily I got it recorded today. This term is the last day for swimming at Canterbury Swim School. I'm kind of a bit sad, but I had a lot of fun, but I'm pretty sure all of you had fun too. But yesterday I had a new goal it is to try not to stop while swimming. But I think that I achieved it. But I will still have many goals, so today my last go will be is to try not to stop at the big pool this time. When I was at the big pool, I always stopped at the middle of the pool because I was so used to the small pool that, I stop at like 13 seconds. So that will be my goal, I will have a videos to show you.

We now have been to Canterbury Swim School for our last swim. I felt really exited, they taught us some water safety. They split us in 2's luckily I was with Axle, Jullien and Khush and also other children. But I hope you enjoy your swimming lessons don't forget to smile! bye!

Let's learn some nets for 3D shapes!

This term we have been given put into new groups! There were 3 groups on our maths group, there was Circles, Stars and Diamonds. But I was put into diamonds, it was the highest group. I was really proud of myself. I was really curious of what we were going to be learning, then the teachers said that we are going to be learning about geometry it's pretty much shapes. Our group had to learn about nets, if you don't know what nets are, well I am going to explain some of it to you. Nets are patterns that you can cut and fold to make an object. Then we had to make a DLO explaining nets. So this is my DLO I hope you enjoy and I hope you learnt something bye!

Practicing for Olympics!! (Joking..)

This term, term 4. We went to Canterbury Swim School, we needed a bus to take us at the Swim School. I felt really exited when we were on the bus, and I was sitting with Axle, Jullien and Khush in front of Axle and I. We were talking about some things about Philippines and then we arrived at Canterbury Swim School. But before we went out the bus the teachers gave us instructors  before they let us out the bus. We had to take off our shoes and socks and put them together, then we lined up into lines. We changed into our swimming suits and then the instructors put us into groups. Then the instructors taught us about stokes and backstrokes. I will put 2 videos of me doing freestyle. But I hope you enjoy!

Binary Alphabet

As you know I have posted something about Binary Numbers and I told you that I am going to post another post about writing your name in Binary Numbers. So Khush and I helped each to make this chart of how you make alphabets using binary numbers. As you can see at the bottom I wrote my name in binary numbers, Khush and I wrote the letters and the binary so if you want to try it out, you can just copy the binary and find the letter that you need for your name. Binary Numbers

For week we were learning about "Binary Numbers." Binary numbers are used for codes, the order of the number will go like this 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 and it will go on, so you are basically counting in doubles. Computers only know on and off like this TY     . But people sometimes only use five of the binary numbers, which are 1, 2, 4, 8, 16. You can write your name by using binary number but I will post another post about how to write your name in binary numbers. Among The Hidden

This week, term 3, 2017. Is the last week of the term, We had to make a DLO 1 more time about Among The Hidden - (Haddix.) It also means that we had a lot of things to finish up. Once upon a time, I had a job but only storks can only apply to this job. It is delivering wishes to people or even animals. I looked around the sky, the sky was so pink it looked like it was blushing. The clouds hovered the land some merged, they looked fluffy and enormous they looked like they were shaped as hills. Some storks flew over the white clouds, and they were holding white bags. Suddenly the storks went to there destination so did I. They delivered babies, cats and even dogs.

We went back into our clouds. They were waiting for there next I was feeling a bit jealous to the other storks, why? Because they always get the safe delivery and they are in higher spot. I was with my cloud but he was not like the other clouds, my cloud was grey and he always give me dangerous animals. But I had to keep my job. I wondered what he will give me next.

Then I got back to my cloud I was a bit slow because was almost featherless. I saluted to my cloud being ready for the next one, but I wasn’t actually ready I was afraid of what he will give me next. He swiftly grabbed me and scratching my head with his fist. So I softly pecked him , I said that I was ready for my next delivery. He laughed and turn back, then he suddenly showed a adorable baby crocodile. “Awwww!” I said, but he pounced on my head and he opened his mouth that my poor head went inside his mouth. I screamed “AHH!”  I tried to get him off my head the adorable or the deadly baby crocodile bit my head more. So I screamed again, but thanks to the cloud he helped me get the crocodile off me. I felt relieved but horrified at the same time. He made the bag that he can put the crocodile inside, I grabbed the bag with my beak very carefully and flew away from my cloud.

I finally delivered the crocodile. So I flew back to my cloud feeling very exhausted, I saw him making another animal I saluted once again but some of my feathers sadly fell off. My cloud was shocked so he quickly cleaned me. Then he grabbed me to the next animal, but I slowly backed away from the animal. He magically made the animal alive but the big hored baby goat rammed my stomach with his gigantic hardened horns. I took a very deep breath, I laughed trying to be fine but I looked up in the sky I saw the other storks having a good time. I was feeling jealous then I looked at my cloud feeling awkward but I grabbed the bag but I got rammed again but I still flew away once again.

I was back at my cloud, he showed me another animal but it didn’t seem to look deadly at the other animals. So I touch it suddenly it turned into a porcupine I was so shocked and hurt of its deadly spikes “AHHHHHHHH!!!” I screamed. I remembered that I threw him in the air so I looked up I had to catch the porcupine. Next he grabbed it and put it in the bag. The spikes went through the bag showing the spikes at the outside. I flapped my wing so that the spikes in my wings flew off, once again I carefully grabbed the bag and flew safely away from my cloud.

I got back on my cloud with spikes on my head. The cloud was shocked so he pull all the spikes off my head. Then hugged me. He remembered that he had one more delivery so he rapidly grabbed it. I backed away from it because it was so big and it had a huge mouth. I looked at the cloud near us giving out baby chicks. He gave me the shark, but I refused I flew at the cloud near us.

I thought I heard a something rumbling and it started to go darker I got a little scared but I knew that I would be safe in here. Suddenly I heard thunder they sounded terrible and loud, but It finally stopped. The cloud near us have me a bag, but unexpectedly it sounded it was raining. I knew that it might have been my cloud so I went back with the bag. I opened it, I saw on his face he was confused. I grabbed the shirt and put it on also the helmet. He once more hugged me and laugh with happiness, I was ready for the next one so he quickly reacted. He gave me an eel It didn’t look very deadly but it randomly shocked me, I screamed “Ahhh!” I knew that it was an electric eel but it shocked me again. I went closer to my cloud and laugh...

Slime Time!!!

At term 1, we had a jar that we had to fill up with 100 marbles. If we filled up the jar we get a prize/reward. The first prize that we earned was we made "Ice Cream." Then the second prize was Fun Day, but before we started our fun day, the teachers put us into groups. In our fun day we had coding, making sherbert and making lolly cakes. We get marbles if we follow rules perfectly and if we were quiet the teachers will put 2 - 3 marbles inside. Now we earned an another marble day, and our prize is making slime! We achieved it because we were doing the right thing and that we are always listening to the rules. If you want to know how to make slime I will put a video at the bottom. The Rhythm

This term we have been writing a story about an old man playing a piano. Then we had to wrote a story about it. So here is mine, i'll be showing you the video that we had to wrote a story about it. But I hope you enjoy bye!!

   The Rhythm 

 

Majestic music came from a gigantic pitch-black piano, I played a music that was the same as I played when I was with my wife. Soft rhythms came deep into my heart, as I tried to remember the cords in my head. As I played the piano, gold memories went back, I took off one of my hand and kept the other. It was that memory of that when I was playing the piano with my wife, that sadly passed away.

But I kept on playing and playing, my hand changed into different spots, my fingers also tapped into different keys. Then suddenly I felt a kiss, I got more happier and energetic. I kept playing the piano the rhythms got more depressing, afterwards a memory came. It was when I signed up to be a soldier. Then the first WW1 started, we had a war. My goal was to try save everyone that gets shot.

I went with a friend of mine,we both nodded that meant we were ready. My friend peeked out from the wall. Then shot hundreds of bullets to our enemy. But then he got shot, I rapidly went up to him but it was late… He sadly passed away.

I still kept playing and playing the rhythms got happier and gratified, next another memory came. It was my granson’s birthday, I gave him my present. Then he opened the box, he grabbed the toy inside of it. He always wanted it. I looked at his face he was very surprised and happy that he got what he always wanted.

But I was still playing the piano, the rhythms got low, then high. I saw in my memory, my grandson was playing with his toy, he was running and jumping around the room. But when I playing the piano I felt alone and sad. Then he went running up to me, he went up the chair and sit with me as I finish the cords. We both press a key to end the song. I felt very happy and proud that I remembered all the cords, and that I got a chance to looked back at my old memories. I told every memory to my grandson, so that he can have an experience of what I had been to...

Add Fractions Together Using Multiplication

This term our maths group have been learning how to "Add Fractions Together Using Multiplication." We had to answer a few questions first, so that the teachers know that we are ready to make a DLO about it. NZ Music Month - Extravaganza Performance

This week, Wednesday and Thursday night at the High School's Auditorium. We are having a performance about the NZ Music Month. We already performed last day and it went really well. Then we are also going to perform at Thursday. Are performance was called "We Don't Know How Lucky We Are" and there were lots of more other performance. Our group were Axle, Aisa, Khush, Joshua. We also wore costumes, are costumes for are are performance was a flannel shirt, shorts, gumboots and bucket hats. Then we practiced are performance a lot of times.

I felt really scared during the performance it into the auditorium. But I just tried to put all my personal best into our performance. Then after our part Axle and I had to go changed into our Tinkling costumes. At the tinkling group there was, Axle, Lyan, Alliah and I and there was also other children.
I was very proud of all are performance and I think the audience really loved it. But I think my next step is to Smile more at the audience when I was doing my Tinkling, and maybe move a bit closer so that the audience at the back can also see me. But anyways I hope you have a great day Bye!

The Shadow Children - Among The Hidden

W.A.L.T: Retell the most important part of the story.

This term we have been reading novels. There were 4 different books, there was Holes, Freak the Mighty, Number of the Stars, Among the Hidden. So I chose "Among the Hidden". Then we had to read up to chapter 10, next we had to group up so Axle chose Khush and I. Then we had to find the most important parts of the story. Afterwards we have to make a DLO or a comic strip about the story. Axle thought that we should make a comic strip. So we made a comic strip.

Axle did the drawings and Khush and I did the coloring . Then Khush did some drawings on the front page, and I did the back page. Next Axle told Khush and I, to wrote some notes about the story. Here are the pictures. But I hope you enjoy! Bye!

Then her mum suddenly came through the door, she looked out the window, she saw her husband building, I looked out the window as well, he was building this humongous thing, he even hurt his finger. As I watched it looked like he was finished and I thought that this gigantic thing could be a trampoline.

Later her mum put my owner to sleep and so I went running to the living room. I looked at the sliding door, I saw two fox appeared into the night and the woods but also got into our backyard.

Afterwards they were looking at a trampoline and it had a ribbon on it so I thought that it might been a gift for my trainer, and then I saw them jump on the trampoline.

1st Fox - “Hey what could this be?”

2nd Fox - “I don’t know.”

1st Fox - “This looks like I could jump on it.”

1st Fox - “Woah!”

2nd Fox - “I wanna try.”

1st Fox - “Sure!”

2nd Fox - “This is so fun!”

2nd Fox - “It looks like someone wants to join.”

Badger - “Hey can I join you?”

I stared at them the whole time, and I was starting to get envious. I wanted to go there, but I can’t. Suddenly  there were more of them jumping around in the trampoline, there was a Squirrel and porcupine.

1st Fox - “ Woohoo!!”

Badger - “More more more!!”

Squirrel - “YES!!”

Porcupine - “ Weehee!”

I got really really jealous. I just wanna join and have fun, but I can’t I had to wait until tomorrow. I was still staring at them, they were just jumping and jumping.

I woke up I saw my owner getting ready and rapidly went down to the living room.  I went too I saw her dad open the door, the snow was so cold as my paws touched it, I saw my trainer’s face she was astonished, amazed, shocked. She quickly ran at the trampoline and felt super excited.

I jumped and jumped I felt so joyful, I just kept jumping and then I looked at my owner’s face she was confused and looked a bit scared. But I just still kept jumping, I even barked I was having that much fun!  

How To Tell 24 Hour Time

This term we have been learning about 24 hour time. In this video I will be explaining how what 24 hour time is if some of you don't know. I will explain some of it for you. As you know a normal clock has only 12 hours of it, well a digital clock has 24 hours on it. Well that's a little bit of it i will be showing you more on the video. Solve Division Problems by Using Time Tables Facts

This term I have been learning about a strategy for maths it is called "Change Unknown." So In this DLO I will be teaching you how to do it. It is a pretty good strategy for division problems. So I hope this DLO helps you and I hope you had a great day BYE!

Timeline

This term we had been learning about "mysteries." Mysteries are like unsolved things like a sighting of an Bigfoot. But I picked a different mystery I chose the "Roswell UFO Incident" it is a UFO sighting in Roswell. We had to figure out some facts and information of the UFO. So I made a timeline for the UFO incident but I haven't finished it yet although I still can put some things in it and it will just keep updating the timeline. I think I have done well it was a little bit challenging because we I had to search some information. But I think I need to my next step is: Be more faster and focused to finish the timeline faster. Whānau Chromebook Support Sessions

This is a post about Whanau Chromebooks Support Sessions this will be at St. Bernadette's. It will start next week you have to bring your family then they will teach you some safety stuff things there. So I have made an invitation from them and you could also do. Mum and Dad,

I really need you to go at the Whānau Chromebook Support Sessions at St. Bernadette's School next week. They will teach you how to be safe online at home and they will also teach you some awesome things that you can do at Chromebooks. I hope that you can come at St. Bernadette's School next week.

Module 1 on Wednesday 24 May at 3:30pm, 5:30pm and 7:30pm.

Module 1: Kawa of Care and the Digital Immersion Learning Environment

This is an introductory course split into two parts.

Part One in this session covers all the physical features of the Chromebook. It also covers important aspects of The Kawa of Care and ways to practically apply the values of this document in the home.

Part Two is a basic introduction in accessing children’s work from relevant sites. In this session, parents will be shown a classroom site, a classroom blog and then a child's individual blog.

From here parents will be shown the difference between all three, how each site or/and blog may be relevant for different times and how to effectively use them as a means to engage with children’s learning, to to stay informed.

This session will be on Thursday 25 May at 3:30pm, 5:30pm and 7:30pm.

Module 2: Cybersmart Values

Module 2 training is for confident users of Chromebooks or parent s who attended Module 1 in Term 1, split into two parts.

In Part Two, parents will learn practical Cybersmart values to apply in the home. Parents will also learn specific skills e.g screenshots, safe browsing, checking history of devices and other helpful skills for the home.

Parents also have the opportunity to learn more about Google products such as docs and gmail (Optional). Offline apps will also be covered, to show parents how to operate machines for learning if there is no access to wireless.

This will be hosted at St Bernadette's school

Animals At WW1

This term we had been learning about ANZAC Day. We had to choose a topic for ANZAC so I chose "Mascots At War". Then we have to make a slide show for it, but first we need to find some information first. After we gathered enough information it was the time to make our slide show. I think I did well doing my slide show and maybe I should be more focused so I can finish my slide show a bit faster. Unidentified Flying Object???

At this term Ako Ngatahi have been learning about mysteries we had a several choices for our mystery. So I picked "Roswell UFO Incident" I chose the UFO because I was really interested about it. So I went into google drawing and make a poster about the UFO Incident but I looked a little bit of information about the UFO first. After I gather enough information I made my poster so Here it is I think I have done well to my poster because I made the background color easy to read. But I thing I should do it a little bit faster so I can post it a long time ago. Bur I hope you liked it and have a great day!

Double and Halve to Solve Multiplication Problems

At the last few weeks our group have been learning a strategy called Doubling and Halving. So I have made a DLO about the strategy I really liked this strategy because it made hard questions easier for me so I hope it also does to you . Cultural Dance

For the last few weeks we were learning about Cultural Dances and we had been practicing our performance. The year 5's were doing the Samoan Sasa and the year 4's and 6's were doing the Maori Christchurch Super Haka and the year 4's and 6's girls was doing the Ti Rakau. And also special thanks to Miss. Our Natural Satelite

For last 3 weeks we were learning about the Moon and we had to make a DLO for it. It took me a while because we had a group called "The Man In The Moon" and we have to go to the mat and then the teachers will be checking our work so they know what we were up to. Then we read journal books about the Moon too so I hope you liked the slideshow and I hope you learned something Byee!!

Sculpture Art!

As you remember we went to Spencer Park and I wrote a story for it. So we collected some sea treasures like shells, driftwood, sticks, feathers and more. So this is my Sculpture I called it "The Bird In The Shells" I called it the bird in the shells because I like birds. So I made a bird and stick it to some shells and I also have two sticks so I merged them two and I put the bird on there. Then I had an idea to make it look better so I got some strings and I tied it into the sticks and I put the shells there. But don't forget to comment on my Spencer Park Trip!
